Check DSU Release Status

To find someone released from Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Direct Supervision Unit, separate program placement from an actual custody exit. DSU is tied to local corrections and regional reentry work, including service for people under Louisiana state sentence authority. A move into DSU, class completion, or release planning does not prove that Lafayette Parish or state custody ended. Reliable confirmation follows the person's LPSO inmate file and Louisiana LAVNS status, then checks the court or receiving system when the record shows a transfer, supervision assignment, or other custody change.

DSU Placement Is Not Release

The official LPSO Programs page says Southwest Central Regional Reentry participants may reside at DSU or LPCC. Those participants are DOC offenders housed in local jails who plan to return to Acadia, Allen, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, or Vermilion Parish. Residence at DSU is a local placement within a state-sentence framework. It is not proof of a community release.

DSU can serve as a local reentry placement for a person who remains under Louisiana sentence authority. Movement from LPCC to DSU is therefore a placement change, not a community release. LAVNS and the DPS&C locator identify state custody or a later supervision assignment, while the LPSO inmate file documents local movement. Course completion and release planning are useful milestones, but neither supplies the actual custody endpoint.

Confirm a DSU Release

No separately verified DSU release archive appears in the reviewed official material. Start with Louisiana LAVNS because DSU participants may remain under DPS&C authority, then request the LPSO inmate-file event. The LPSO offender instructions can help with current local custody, but the portal's 72-hour option lists recent bookings rather than releases.

  1. Identify the participant by DPS&C number, booking number, and lawful date of birth.
  2. Check LAVNS for prison placement or a community-supervision assignment.
  3. Ask LPSO Records for the movement between LPCC and DSU.
  4. Call the assigned DPS&C district when supervision is shown.
  5. Request the public state discharge date when completion must be proved.
Important: An absent roster result is only a lead. It does not prove a community release or rule out another custodian.

Two people with the same name must be separated by booking number, lawful date of birth, court docket, agency, and location. Never merge charges or events. The full Lafayette Parish search and release-record path is also set out on the released inmates home page.

DSU Release Record Requests

LPSO Records manages inmate files in physical and electronic form. It accepts a public-record request in person, by its designated email, or by U.S. mail. The agency warns that a request sent through another route or to another employee is not deemed received. A good request identifies the booked person, booking number, date range, and existing record. Ask for the custody/release transaction, date and time, release code or disposition, authority, destination or receiving agency if maintained, and releasable commitment or release documents.

Do not ask staff to research a broad question such as why someone got out. Ask for defined records. Request electronic copies and a cost estimate. If a field is missing, clarify whether it is not maintained, exempt, or outside the produced record. Those answers are not the same. Louisiana R.S. 44:32 provides a written-reason process when the custodian questions whether a record is public, but it is not a universal promise that production will be complete within five days.

DSU Program Contacts

LPSO Corrections Programs supplies the verified context for DSU. Community Corrections and Programs is posted at 1825 West Willow Street in Scott, telephone 337-236-5440, weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The source does not unambiguously label that street address as the DSU building itself. It should be treated as the programs contact, not an invented DSU release desk.

No separate DSU capacity, annual intake count, release count, or continuously staffed public counter was established. Name-only matching remains risky, so use the booking or DPS&C number.

The official Corrections Programs page is the source for DSU participation and program context. It does not publish a DSU release archive.

DSU Reentry History Context

DSU operates within a corrections system whose main LPCC facility reports initial American Correctional Association accreditation on August 1, 1988 and reaccreditation at every assessment. That is LPCC history, not proof of separate DSU accreditation or a DSU release count. Its value here is limited context for the LPSO correctional structure.

The accreditation belongs to LPCC, not DSU. DSU's distinctive role is regional reentry for state-sentence participants; its program history cannot be used as a release log or a claim about when custody ended.

DSU State Record Checks

Louisiana LAVNS is more central than a parish docket for a DOC participant's current placement. ClerkConnect still helps when a Lafayette sentence or minute explains the legal basis, but it does not record DSU gate movement.

Dismissal has the same boundary. It resolves the documented charge or case, not every possible custody basis. If the person remains absent from LPCC and no community event is visible, check state, federal, and immigration systems based on actual record clues. Do not infer a destination from residence or rumor.

Release
An end to a named custodian's physical custody.
Transfer
A move to another custodian, not freedom.
Discharge
Completion of the applicable custody or supervision term.
Detainer
A request or authority that may lead to another custody handoff.

Correct DSU Status Errors

When an LPSO field appears wrong, contact Records with the booking number, the precise field, and the supporting record staff requests. A court error belongs with the Clerk department tied to the docket. LAVNS republishes source-agency data, so a state status issue begins with DPS&C or the assigned office. Record when each search was performed and keep Lafayette events in the source time zone.

A date alone may not settle the order of several same-day events. Label projected dates as projected and preserve the retrieval date. VINE alerts are useful leads, but the research describes daily state update language. The sheriff custody transaction and direct agency confirmation rank higher for a time-sensitive LPCC release.

DSU's regional setting requires its own verification path. The Southwest Central Regional Reentry Program serves DOC participants returning to nine parishes and can include the 100-Hour Pre-Release Curriculum plus educational, behavioral, family, and substance-use work. None of those milestones is a release date. A participant may remain under state authority while placed in a local unit. The building and legal custodian can differ. Search LAVNS, confirm the assigned institution or supervision district, and ask LPSO for the local movement record. A facility assignment means confinement continues; a probation or parole district may show physical release under supervision.

Identify the participant by booking and DPS&C numbers and ask LPSO for the releasable placement or transfer transaction involving DSU. Ask DPS&C for the public state facts needed, such as current assignment or discharge date. Program staff can explain services but should not be asked to certify a custody endpoint they do not maintain. A direct custody transaction outranks enrollment, course completion, or an informal report. Preserve the lookup date because LAVNS has stated daily update language and a projected date may change.

For correction work, send the disputed field to the agency that owns it. LPSO Records can address a local movement entry. DPS&C or the assigned district addresses state status supplied to LAVNS. The Clerk addresses a sentencing minute. Keep the source timestamp and Central time where stated. A date without a time cannot order two same-day movements, and an old program document should never overcome a newer custody event. If the identifiers do not separate namesakes, ask for the specific booking record instead of choosing the most familiar result.

Note: LPCC record retention is not publicly specified; ask the custodian and do not infer it from the portal's rolling booking window.
