Lafayette VINELink Release Coverage
Louisiana's service is the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System, or LAVNS, delivered through VINELink. The Louisiana DPS&C Inmate Information page says the service includes people in prison and people under probation or parole supervision. Its data is updated every 24 hours. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office also directs users from its offender portal instructions to VINE release alerts and recommends a booking-number search when the handoff does not find the person.
Coverage follows the agency record. A short parish booking may be supplied through the Lafayette path, while a DPS&C sentence can appear through the state source even when the person is physically housed in a local jail. A probation or parole result supports community supervision, not final discharge. Federal BOP and ICE custody are outside LAVNS and require their own official locators.

- Record the lookup date and time. Status may change after the search because LAVNS receives source-agency updates.
If no record appears, test spelling and the strongest ID. A no-result may reflect update lag, transfer, source participation, or a record outside Louisiana's VINE coverage. It does not prove that no booking occurred or that the person is free from all custody.
When two people share a name, do not combine their dates, charges, photos, or custody statuses. Return to the Lafayette booking number or the state DPS&C number, then compare the agency and location. A court docket can add another unique case reference. If the available identifiers still do not separate the records, stop short of choosing a match and ask the source agency to identify the correct booking. That pause protects the accuracy of both the search and any notification registration.

A projected release date is a forecast and not a completed event. It is available through the DPS&C telephone locator when applicable, not guaranteed as a VINELink field for every Lafayette record. Final state discharge is also distinct from release to parole. The public discharge date may be requested under the state framework after the term ends.
Register Lafayette Release Notifications
Registration should begin only after the correct person and agency are confirmed. A notification can report a release, transfer, or other custody change according to the source record. For LPCC, use the sheriff's current custody or Records route. For a state record, use DPS&C or the assigned probation and parole district.
Note: Register on the exact matching record because an alert attached to a similar name can report another person's custody event.
Louisiana's Two Release Alert Paths
Louisiana adds a distinctive second layer for state notices. DPS&C says registration with local LAVNS is not the same as registration with Louisiana Victim Outreach. According to the official Victim Services page, Outreach registration is required for listed state notices that include projected release and actual release.
A person seeking applicable state notices should complete both official processes and keep both contact records current. LAVNS supplies a searchable status and notification path. Victim Outreach manages the separate state registration for its listed events, which can also include physical-custody release, transitional-work placement, escape, and pardon or parole hearings.

This two-track process is especially important for a Lafayette Parish person who moves from parish custody into a DPS&C sentence. A local VINE registration should not be assumed to duplicate state Outreach notice.
Interpret Lafayette Release Alerts
A “released” or “out of custody” result means the reporting agency ended its custody. The label does not settle whether another agency received the person. Start by noting the source and location, then check the next system that fits the record.

A court minute may show the legal basis for release, such as bond, dismissal, time served, or an order, yet it may not give the precise exit time or eliminate another hold. In the same way, a parole grant authorizes release subject to requirements but is not a gate-exit record. Combine the alert with the agency event.
When a Lafayette person leaves LPCC and appears at a state prison, the event is a transfer. When the correct state result shows a current probation or parole assignment, it supports physical release under supervision. Neither result should be described as full discharge without the discharge record.
Lafayette VINELink Release Limits
LAVNS is a strong lead because it spans Louisiana imprisonment and community supervision, but it is not a complete map of every custody class. The official update interval is every 24 hours. A same-day change can appear later, and direct agency confirmation is stronger when timing matters.
Federal BOP custody is checked through the BOP Inmate Locator and the federal docket. A BOP label stating Released or Not in BOP Custody only ends the BOP inquiry and does not rule out USMS, state, local, immigration custody, or supervision. ICE custody is checked through ICE ODLS, which includes a limited recent-release period and does not always distinguish community placement, removal, or transfer in the way a reader expects.
For a Lafayette Parish jail event, the sheriff's release entry is the best proof of the physical LPCC endpoint. A signed court order or minute entry is strongest for the legal basis. For Louisiana post-release status, use the correct LAVNS record and assigned probation and parole office. Final state discharge is confirmed through the public discharge date, not merely an older alert.
